Business To Business, Kolkata, 29th May, 2026: The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted interim protection to actor Parambrata Chatterjee from any coercive action by police in connection with an alleged social media post made after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Election 2021.
A written complaint had been lodged on May 21 at Gariahat Police Station alleging that Chatterjee’s post on the day election results were declared had instigated and encouraged post-poll violence allegedly carried out by unidentified persons in different parts of the state.
During the hearing, Chatterjee’s counsel argued that the FIR did not attribute any overt act, criminal intent, or unlawful conduct to the actor and sought quashing of the proceedings against him.
The court’s interim order protects Chatterjee from coercive police action while the matter remains under judicial consideration.
