Calcutta HC dismisses TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's plea to travel abroad for eye treatment

Business To Business, Kolkata, 05 August, 2026:   The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea by Abhishek Banerjee seeking permission to travel abroad for eye treatment.
Earlier, the court had directed Banerjee to appear before a medical board at the state-run SSKM Hospital on August 6 so that it could assess his medical condition and provide its opinion.
According to the proceedings, Banerjee informed the court that he was not willing to appear before the medical board. In view of this, the High Court dismissed his request to travel overseas for treatment.
The dismissal was based on Banerjee's refusal to undergo the court-directed medical evaluation at SSKM Hospital, which the court had considered necessary before deciding on his plea.
