Calcutta HC vacates interim protection to TMC's Jahangir Khan

Business To Business, Kolkata, 26th May, 2026:  The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday vacated an interim protection earlier granted to TMC leader Jahangir Khan.
According to police, seven FIRs have been registered against Khan at Falta police station in West Bengal.
Hearing the matter, Justice Partha Sarathi Sen observed that granting protection solely on the basis of a changed political scenario or allegations of political vendetta would not be justified.
Key points from the court’s observation:

  • Interim protection was withdrawn
  • Multiple FIRs are pending investigation
  • Claims of political vendetta were not sufficient grounds for continued protection
  • Legal proceedings should continue as per law
The decision effectively removes the interim legal shield previously granted to the TMC leader, allowing investigating agencies to proceed with their actions in accordance with the FIRs registered against him.
