Business To Business, Kolkata, 12th May 2026: West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal has been appointed as the chief secretary of the BJP-led government in the state, according to an official order issued on Monday.
Agarwal, a 1990-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, previously oversaw the EC-mandated Special Summary Revision (SIR) exercise ahead of the assembly elections, which resulted in around 91 lakh voters being removed from the electoral rolls.
His appointment as chief secretary came within 48 hours of EC’s special roll observer Subrata Gupta being named as an advisor to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, signaling a recalibration of the administrative circle with former poll officials.
