Congress 'committed 5 sins' against people of Assam: Chouhan
Business To Business, Guwahati, 05 April 2026: Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of committing “five major sins” against the people of Assam since Independence.
Addressing election rallies in Bokakhat and Naduar, Chouhan alleged:
- During the Partition of India, the Congress was allegedly inclined to hand over Assam to Pakistan. He credited Gopinath Bordoloi for resisting this and ensuring the state remained part of India.
- During the Sino-Indian War, he criticised then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, claiming that Assam was “left to its fate” during the crisis.
These remarks were part of Chouhan’s broader campaign narrative aimed at criticising Congress’s historical role in the region, while highlighting leaders like Bordoloi as defenders of Assam’s interests.
