Business To Business, New Delhi, 05th July, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday criticised the Congress over its decision to suspend Goa Minority Department chairman Wasim Khan and dissolve the state minority department committee, alleging that the opposition party is "anti-Muslim" and intolerant of dissent.
The BJP's remarks came after the Congress suspended Khan with immediate effect, citing alleged acts of indiscipline and anti-party activities.
In a separate organisational decision, the Congress also dissolved the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee's Minority Department with immediate effect until further orders. The party appointed Nazir A. Khan as the convenor of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Minority Department to oversee its functioning.
Reacting to the development, the BJP accused the Congress of suppressing dissent within its ranks and alleged that its actions contradicted its public claims of representing minority interests.
The Congress, however, maintained that the disciplinary action against Wasim Khan was taken in accordance with party rules over alleged indiscipline and activities considered detrimental to the organisation. The party has not publicly elaborated on the specific allegations.
The episode has triggered a fresh political exchange between the BJP and the Congress in Goa, with both parties trading accusations over their approach towards minority representation and internal party functioning.
