Business To Business, New Delhi, 26th June, 2026: Amit Shah will launch Bharat Taxi, described as India's first driver-owned ride-hailing platform, on Saturday across 14 major cities in Gujarat, with the government aiming to expand the service across the state within a month.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Cooperation, the platform will initially be launched in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Dwarka, Somnath, Valsad, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana and Amreli.
The initiative is intended to provide a cooperative-based digital mobility platform in which drivers have ownership and are expected to benefit directly from the service, offering an alternative model in the ride-hailing sector.
The launch event will also be attended by Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Cooperation Secretary Ashish Kumar Bhutani and other senior government officials.
The government plans to extend Bharat Taxi across Gujarat within a month, with the objective of promoting cooperative entrepreneurship, improving drivers' earnings and expanding access to app-based transport services through a driver-owned model.
