Digvijaya Singh urges PM Modi to put 3-language policy implementation on hold

Business To Business, New Delhi, 7th June, 2026:   Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over the CBSE's mandatory implementation of the three-language policy for Class IX students during the ongoing academic session.
Singh, who chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, argued that introducing the policy mid-session could disrupt students' studies because many schools may lack sufficient teachers, textbooks, and preparation time.
He compared the situation to the difficulties experienced during the rollout of CBSE's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, which faced criticism for being implemented hastily.
In his letter, Singh forwarded a representation from a group of concerned parents who oppose the immediate enforcement of the policy and urged the government to put the move on hold.
Key issue: The debate is not over the three-language policy itself, but over the timing and preparedness for its implementation in the middle of an academic session.
