DMK, TVK trade charges of 'horse-trading,' ruling party MLA 'lured' with Rs 35 crore

Business To Business, Chennai, 01st July, 2026:   Political tensions escalated in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday as the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) traded allegations of horse-trading, with the DMK seeking the Governor's intervention and the police arresting three persons in connection with an alleged inducement case.
The exchange of accusations comes just over a month after the TVK government, led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, assumed office following its victory over the DMK in the April 23 Assembly elections.
The DMK alleged that Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko had publicly stated that Chief Minister Vijay had attempted to lure two of the party's MLAs. Based on this claim, the DMK urged Governor R. V. Arlekar to take appropriate action and ensure justice.
Meanwhile, the police arrested three individuals allegedly linked to the DMK as part of an investigation into claims of inducement, further intensifying the political confrontation between the two rival parties.
