Business To Business, New Delhi, 29th June, 2026: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday said the Madhya Pradesh government should not implement the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) without securing the consensus of all religious groups and communities.
Speaking on the issue, Singh said such legislation should be introduced only after broad-based consultations to ensure that the views of all stakeholders are taken into account.
He also demanded strict action against those found responsible for the alleged misappropriation of donation funds at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to introduce the UCC Bill during the monsoon session of the state legislative assembly, which is scheduled to begin on July 20.
As part of the drafting process, a committee headed by retired Justice Ranjana Desai has sought oral and written suggestions from a range of stakeholders, including political representatives and religious leaders, to finalise the draft Uniform Civil Code for the state.
