ED interrogates TMC MP Abhishek for over 11 hours in primary school jobs scam case
Business To Business, Kolkata, 15th June, 2026: Abhishek Banerjee was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate for more than 11 hours on Monday in connection with its investigation into the alleged primary school recruitment scam in West Bengal.
The lengthy interrogation came just a day after Banerjee underwent another extended round of questioning by the Criminal Investigation Department in a separate case involving allegations of forged MLAs' signatures on documents related to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.
- Monday: Over 11 hours of questioning by the ED in the recruitment scam probe.
- Sunday: Around 8½ hours of questioning by the CID in the alleged signature-forgery case.
The back-to-back interrogations have placed the senior
All India Trinamool Congress leader under intense scrutiny amid the party's ongoing political turmoil.
After leaving the ED office at around 10:15 pm, Banerjee criticized the summonses, alleging that investigative agencies were being used to weaken opposition parties.
According to him, repeated summonses and interrogations were attempts to:
"destroy the opposition forces."
The alleged primary school recruitment scam relates to accusations of irregularities in appointments to teaching and non-teaching posts in government schools. The case has been under investigation by multiple agencies and has resulted in the questioning and arrest of several political leaders, officials, and individuals connected with the recruitment process.
The questioning comes at a particularly sensitive time for the TMC, which is grappling with internal dissent and defections following its defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Banerjee remains one of the party's most prominent leaders and a central figure in its organizational structure.
As of now, the ED has not publicly disclosed details of the questions asked during the interrogation or indicated any immediate further action. The investigation remains ongoing.
