ED summons TMC's Abhishek in primary school recruitment case on June 15
Business To Business, Kolkata, 3rd June, 2026: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday served a summons to Abhishek Banerjee, directing him to appear before the agency on June 15 in connection with its investigation into alleged irregularities in primary school recruitment in West Bengal.
According to officials:
- A team of ED officers visited Banerjee's residence on Kalighat Road in south Kolkata on Wednesday evening.
- As the MP was not present, the summons was reportedly handed over to a member of his staff.
- He has been asked to appear before investigators at the ED's office in the CGO Complex in Salt Lake.
Banerjee, the MP from Diamond Harbour and nephew of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has previously faced questioning by central agencies in other investigations.
The primary school recruitment case concerns allegations of irregularities in appointments and recruitment processes within West Bengal's school education system. The matter has led to multiple investigations by agencies including the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation, as well as extensive court proceedings.
A summons by the ED does not imply guilt. It is part of the agency's investigative process, and any conclusions regarding wrongdoing would depend on the outcome of the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings. The Trinamool Congress has frequently alleged that central agencies are being used for political purposes, while the agencies maintain that their actions are based on evidence and judicial directions.
