Business To Business, Kolkata, 15th June, 2026: Kunal Ghosh was targeted with an egg outside the residence of Mamata Banerjee in the Kalighat area of south Kolkata on Monday evening.
The incident occurred at around 6:30 pm after Ghosh emerged from Mamata Banerjee's residence and stopped to interact with journalists waiting outside.
According to eyewitnesses, a man identified as Chandan allegedly threw an egg at the TMC leader from close range.
Although Ghosh attempted to dodge the projectile, the egg reportedly struck his head and broke on impact.
The incident comes at a time of intense political turmoil within the All India Trinamool Congress, which is facing a major internal rebellion following its defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Ghosh has been one of the prominent figures in the party's ongoing political battles and organizational disputes.
No serious injury was reported immediately after the incident. Police personnel and security officials present in the area intervened following the episode.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances of the attack, including the motive of the accused and whether the act was politically motivated.
While egg-throwing incidents are generally viewed as acts of protest rather than serious physical assaults, targeting a sitting MLA outside the residence of a major political leader is likely to attract political attention and raise questions about security arrangements in the area.
Further details are expected once police complete their preliminary inquiry and record statements from witnesses and the accused.
