Former TN deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin arrested for 'double-meaning' remark, released

Business To Business, Chennai, 04 August, 2026:   Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested by police on Tuesday in connection with a case alleging that he made a "double-meaning" remark referring to actor Trisha Krishnan and insulting her modesty.
After being questioned, Udhayanidhi was released on station bail at Thanjavur.
Following his release, he denied the allegations, stating that:

  • His remarks had a "single meaning", relating only to the demand for the release of Cauvery river water for Tamil Nadu.
  • He had not made any derogatory comments about anyone.
  • His statements had been distorted through a "cut, copy, paste" approach.
  • He claimed that police had treated him "like a terrorist" during the arrest.
Meanwhile, Aadhav Arjuna defended the police action at a party meeting, saying that strict action would be taken against anyone making remarks against women.
The case centres on allegations that Udhayanidhi's comments amounted to insulting the modesty of a woman, an accusation he has categorically denied. Police questioned him as part of the investigation before granting him station bail.
