From Gandhi to Modi: India’s biggest brand ambassador now is PM, says Shekhawat

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th May, 2026:  Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that India's international image has undergone a significant transformation over the past decade, arguing that while Mahatma Gandhi was once the country's most prominent global symbol, Narendra Modi has now emerged as India's "biggest brand ambassador".
In an interview, Shekhawat said that India's identity abroad is also shaped by its rich cultural heritage, festivals, traditions, and cuisine, which contribute significantly to the country's global recognition.
According to the minister, India's international perception in earlier years had been "somewhat lacking," but he suggested that the country's visibility and influence on the global stage have increased in recent times.
Shekhawat's remarks reflect the government's emphasis on projecting India's cultural heritage, tourism potential, and growing international profile through initiatives related to culture, diplomacy, and global engagement.
The comments come as India continues to promote its soft power through cultural exchanges, tourism campaigns, international events, and the global popularity of elements such as yoga, Indian cuisine, festivals, and historical heritage sites.
