His admiration for PM appears to have transcended physical world: Congress slams Tharoor

Business To Business, New Delhi, 20th June, 2026:  The Indian National Congress on Saturday took aim at its own MP, Shashi Tharoor, over what it described as his continued admiration for Narendra Modi.
In a sharp remark, the party suggested that Tharoor's admiration for the prime minister had "transcended the physical world," alleging that he appeared capable of hearing statements that Modi had never made.
Responding to the criticism, Tharoor said he was surprised that his comments regarding the protection of civilian sailors had been interpreted through a partisan political lens.
According to Tharoor, the prime minister had conveyed, both publicly and privately during meetings with a foreign president, that civilian sailors aboard commercial vessels should not be treated as combatants during wartime.
"It is important to convey the message that in wartime, civilian sailors on commercial ships should not be targets of combat. They are not soldiers, and that is the message PM Modi conveyed," Tharoor reportedly said.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between Tharoor and sections of the Congress leadership over his public remarks on issues involving the government and foreign policy. While Tharoor maintained that his comments were focused on a humanitarian principle and maritime safety, some within the party viewed them as overly favorable to the prime minister.
