Business To Business, Kolkata, 11th July, 2026: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said he is not a "weak and coward" chief minister like Mamata Banerjee, asserting that his government will not tolerate irresponsible statements by elected representatives that have the potential to incite communal tension.
Adhikari's remarks were seen as an indirect reference to Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief Humayun Kabir, the MLA from Nowda, whom the chief minister had recently reprimanded in the West Bengal Assembly over alleged "inflammatory and provocative" remarks made along communal lines.
The chief minister said that maintaining law and order and preventing communal discord remained a priority for his government, adding that provocative statements capable of disturbing social harmony would not be accepted.
His comments come amid heightened political exchanges over public statements made by political leaders in the state.
