Jharkhand: NDA MLAs shifted to hotel, INDIA bloc holds mock poll ahead of RS election
Business To Business, Ranchi, 16th June, 2026: Ahead of the June 19 election to two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand, political activity intensified on Tuesday as legislators from both the ruling and opposition camps undertook measures to prepare for the voting process.
NDA MLAs shifted to hotel
MLAs belonging to the National Democratic Alliance were moved to a hotel in Ranchi, where party leaders said they would:
- Hold strategy meetings.
- Receive training on the voting procedure.
- Prepare for the Rajya Sabha election.
Such arrangements are often made by political parties ahead of closely contested elections to ensure coordination among legislators and prevent cross-voting.
Meanwhile, legislators of the ruling
INDIA alliance participated in a mock polling exercise to familiarize themselves with the voting process.
Rajya Sabha elections involve a preferential voting system and the use of a special ballot, making training sessions common for both ruling and opposition camps.
Reacting to the NDA's decision to move its MLAs to a hotel, the ruling
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha took a swipe at the opposition, claiming that the NDA lacked confidence in its own legislators.
The NDA, however, maintained that the arrangements were aimed at ensuring that all members understood the voting procedure and cast valid votes.
The election to the two Rajya Sabha seats is significant because:
- It will determine representation of Jharkhand in Parliament's upper house.
- The outcome could influence the strength of political parties in the Rajya Sabha.
- It provides an important test of unity within both the ruling and opposition alliances.
With voting scheduled for Thursday, both camps are focused on ensuring discipline among their legislators and avoiding any invalid votes or unexpected defections during the election process.
