Lookout notice issued against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's aide in land fraud case

Business To Business, Kolkata, 16th June, 2026:    The Criminal Investigation Department on Tuesday issued a lookout notice against Sumit Roy in connection with an alleged land fraud case, according to sources in the investigating agency.
The development follows the issuance of a warrant against Roy a day earlier. Investigators have reportedly been unable to trace him despite conducting multiple search operations at locations linked to him over the past several days.
According to CID sources:

  • Searches were carried out at several addresses associated with Roy.
  • Investigators were unable to locate him.
  • A lookout notice was subsequently issued to alert authorities and monitor any attempt to leave the country or evade law enforcement.
Roy is described as a close aide of Abhishek Banerjee, a senior leader of the All India Trinamool Congress.
The action comes at a time when the TMC is facing significant political turbulence following internal divisions and a series of investigations involving party leaders and associates.
A lookout notice (or lookout circular) is typically issued by investigative agencies when:
  • A person wanted in a case cannot be located.
  • Authorities believe the individual may attempt to leave the country.
  • Immigration and law-enforcement agencies need to be alerted about the person's movements.
The CID is expected to continue efforts to trace Roy and execute the warrant issued against him. If located, he could be questioned in connection with the alleged land fraud investigation.
As of now, no public response from Roy regarding the allegations or the lookout notice has been reported.
