Mamata brings back Kalyan as LS chief whip, calls for unity as TMC regroups after poll setback

Business To Business, Kolkata, 14th May 2026:  In a significant organisational reshuffle, Mamata Banerjee on Thursday replaced Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar with Kalyan Banerjee as the Lok Sabha chief whip of the All India Trinamool Congress.
The decision was taken at a meeting of TMC MPs held at Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat.
Kalyan Banerjee, regarded as one of the party’s outspoken and loyal leaders, had earlier been removed from the position during a period when the TMC was politically dominant but facing internal turbulence. His reinstatement is being viewed as an attempt by the party leadership to rely on experienced and combative figures during a difficult political phase.
The reshuffle comes as the TMC seeks to regroup and maintain unity following a major electoral setback that ended its uninterrupted tenure in power in West Bengal.
Party leaders reportedly emphasised unity, discipline and resilience during the meeting as the organisation prepares to function from the opposition benches after years in government.
