Mamata faces protest, mud, and ‘chor’ slogans during visit to family of deceased TMC worker

Business To Business, Kolkata, 10 August 2026:  Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday faced protests during her visit to North 24 Parganas to meet the family of a TMC worker who allegedly died in police custody.
A group of protesters surrounded her vehicle, raised "chor-chor" slogans and allegedly threw mud, slippers and stones at the car. Police formed a cordon around the vehicle as protesters blocked its passage.
Banerjee later alleged that her car had been attacked and accused the administration of failing to provide adequate security despite being informed about her visit.
"My car has been attacked with stones, shoes and mud. This is nothing but a conspiracy."
The incident triggered a political confrontation, with rival groups trading allegations over political provocation, public anger and administrative lapses.
Banerjee had travelled to the area to meet the family of the TMC worker whose alleged death in police custody has become a flashpoint between the ruling party and its political opponents.
