Mamata urges EC to conclude 'TMC dispute' inquiry without giving rival camp any more time

Business To Business, Kolkata, 30th July, 2026:   Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the Election Commission (EC) to conclude its inquiry into the dispute over the ownership of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) name, election symbol and organisational control, arguing that the rival faction has failed to respond despite receiving repeated extensions.
In a letter addressed to Election Commission Secretary Ashwani Kumar Mohal on Wednesday, the TMC founder-chairperson said the rival group led by Ritabrata Banerjee should not be granted any further opportunity to present its case.
Mamata Banerjee contended that the proceedings should be brought to a close "as early as possible", citing the dispute's "serious political ramifications in West Bengal."
The dispute relates to the ownership of the party's name, election symbol and organisational structure, with the Election Commission currently examining the competing claims.
Banerjee urged the poll body to conclude the matter expeditiously, stating that a timely decision would provide clarity on an issue with significant political implications for the state.
