Mamata urges electors to cast vote to 'take revenge' for deletion of names from rolls
Business To Business, Samserganj, 05 April 2026: Mamata Banerjee on Sunday urged voters to respond politically to alleged irregularities in electoral rolls, calling on them to “take revenge” through their votes.
Addressing a rally in Samserganj, she raised concerns over the deletion of names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
- Alleged that many genuine voters’ names were removed from electoral rolls
- Asked affected individuals to file appeals before the tribunal
- Urged voters to express their protest through voting, ensuring the results reflect public sentiment
- Samserganj, in Murshidabad district, had seen tensions during protests linked to the Waqf (Amendment) Act in April 2025
- The remarks come amid heightened campaigning ahead of elections in West Bengal
The issue of
voter roll revisions has become a political flashpoint, with:
- Allegations of disenfranchisement
- Calls for legal recourse and verification
- Parties using the issue to mobilise voter turnout
Banerjee’s appeal frames the voting process itself as a means of democratic response to perceived electoral irregularities.
