Modi govt showing trademark arrogance, treating students as enemies of nation: Sonia Gandhi

Business To Business, New Delhi, 24th July, 2026:   Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing it of responding to student demands for accountability and educational reforms with "cowardice and wanton cruelty."
In a statement, Gandhi said students across the country had sought greater accountability and reforms in the education system but were being treated "not as inheritors of the future but as enemies of the nation."
She alleged that the government had weakened India's education landscape and claimed that students had exposed what she described as the Modi government's shortcomings.
The former Congress president also said it was the moral, political and constitutional responsibility of all stakeholders to stand with students and protect their future.
Her remarks come amid continuing protests over issues related to the education sector, including demands for reforms and greater accountability in the conduct of national-level examinations.
