Business To Business, Chennai, 13th May 2026: C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday said that the alleged leak of the NEET question paper and the subsequent cancellation of the examination exposed structural flaws in the system, and reiterated the demand for the abolition of NEET.
The Tamil Nadu chief minister said states should be allowed to fill medical seats independently based on Class 12 marks rather than through a centralised entrance examination.
According to Vijay, the cancellation of the test after reports of a paper leak had shattered the hopes of lakhs of medical aspirants across the country.
In a statement, he said the Government of Tamil Nadu has consistently and unanimously opposed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test since its inception.
He further argued that NEET has disproportionately disadvantaged students from rural regions, government schools, Tamil-medium backgrounds and economically weaker sections, contending that the examination system favours students with access to expensive coaching infrastructure.
