North Bengal development roadmap ready, all Central schemes will reach hills: CM Suvendu
Business To Business, Kolkata, 16th June, 2026: Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday said that his government has prepared a comprehensive development roadmap for North Bengal, emphasizing that the region will be a major focus of the administration's policy agenda.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kurseong during his first visit to the Darjeeling Hills since becoming chief minister, Adhikari assured residents that the benefits of all Central government schemes would be delivered effectively.
Adhikari stated that:
- A detailed roadmap for the development of North Bengal has already been prepared.
- The hills and adjoining northern districts will receive special attention.
- Central welfare and development schemes will be implemented smoothly in the region.
- The government is committed to accelerating infrastructure and socio-economic development.
The chief minister described North Bengal as a priority area for his administration. The region includes districts such as:
- Darjeeling
- Kalimpong
- Jalpaiguri
- Alipurduar
- Cooch Behar
- Other northern districts of the state.
The visit marked Adhikari's first official tour of the Darjeeling Hills after assuming office. He received a ceremonial welcome and interacted with local residents and beneficiaries of government welfare schemes.
While detailed components of the roadmap were not disclosed, such plans typically focus on:
- Road and transport connectivity.
- Tourism promotion.
- Employment generation.
- Education and healthcare infrastructure.
