Organisational reset in TMC: Mamata to increase worker outreach, I-PAC's role to be curtailed
Business To Business, Kolkata, 23rd June, 2026: Facing internal dissent and defections following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has initiated an organisational reset aimed at rebuilding grassroots connections and strengthening the party structure.
According to party sources, the strategy includes greater direct engagement by senior leaders with party workers and a reduced reliance on political consultancy firm I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee).
Greater Direct Outreach by Top Leadership
As part of the reorganisation, TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are expected to increase their direct interactions with party workers and members of the public.
Sources indicated that:
- Regular meetings with grassroots workers will be held.
- Senior leaders will spend more time at party offices.
- Feedback from local cadres will be gathered directly.
- Efforts will be made to reconnect with the party's organisational base.
Kalighat Office to Be More Accessible
According to party sources, the TMC's Kalighat office in Kolkata, which also serves as Mamata Banerjee's residence, will remain open to the public every day except Sunday.
The plan reportedly envisages both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee being available during working hours to meet:
- Party workers
- Local leaders
- Supporters
- Members of the public
Context: Internal Challenges
The organisational changes come amid:
- Rebellions by some MLAs and MPs
- Internal factionalism
- Defections and leadership challenges
- The need to rebuild morale after the electoral setback
Party leaders believe stronger grassroots engagement and a more hands-on approach by the leadership could help address worker grievances, improve coordination, and stabilize the organisation.
The reported move to rely more on direct political engagement rather than consultant-driven management signals a shift in the TMC's strategy as it seeks to regroup and prepare for future political contests in West Bengal.
