People of Tripura and Northeast will forever remain grateful to PM Modi for his vision: Manik Saha
Business To Business, Guwahati, 10th June, 2026: Manik Saha on Wednesday congratulated Narendra Modi on completing 12 years in office and credited his leadership with transforming the development landscape of India's Northeast.
Appreciation for the 'HIRA' Model
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Saha said the people of Tripura and the wider Northeast would remain grateful for Modi's 'HIRA' development vision, which stands for:
- Highways
- Internetways
- Railways
- Airways
The concept has been promoted as a framework for improving connectivity and accelerating economic growth in the northeastern region.
Transformation of the Northeast
According to Saha, the Northeast had previously felt disconnected from the country's mainstream development narrative despite being geographically linked to the rest of India.
He said that under Modi's leadership the region has experienced:
- Increased infrastructure development.
- Greater policy attention from the Centre.
- Improved connectivity through roads, railways, air services, and digital networks.
- Enhanced integration with national growth initiatives.
Increased Engagement by the Centre
The Tripura chief minister also highlighted:
- Frequent visits by Union ministers to the Northeast.
- Higher public investment in infrastructure projects.
- Sustained focus on regional development by the central government.
He said these measures had strengthened the sense of inclusion, participation, and confidence among the people of the region.
Saha's letter is among several messages from BJP-led state governments marking Modi's completion of 12 years as Prime Minister and his recent milestone of becoming India's longest continuously serving elected prime minister.
Supporters of the government point to improvements in connectivity, infrastructure, and welfare delivery in the Northeast as key achievements of the past decade. Critics, meanwhile, continue to debate the pace and distribution of development benefits across different parts of the region.
The remarks underscore the importance that northeastern states attach to connectivity projects, which are widely seen as crucial for economic growth, trade, tourism, and integration with national and international markets.
