PM Modi hails BJP's victory in West Bengal's Falta seat

Business To Business, New Delhi, 25th May, 2026:  Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Bharatiya Janata Party for its victory in the re-poll to the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal, saying the result reflected the people’s strong faith in the party.
The BJP won the re-poll by a margin of more than one lakh votes in a constituency traditionally regarded as a stronghold of the All India Trinamool Congress. The TMC candidate reportedly finished in fourth place and forfeited the election deposit.
In a post on X, Modi congratulated BJP candidate Debangshu Panda on the victory and said:
“People of Falta have spoken! Democracy has won and intimidation has lost.”
He added that the outcome demonstrated the “unwavering faith” of the people of West Bengal in the BJP.
The result is being viewed as politically significant because:

  • Falta had long been considered a TMC stronghold
  • The scale of the BJP’s victory margin was unusually large
  • The defeat intensified questions over the TMC’s organisational strength after the Assembly elections
The re-poll outcome is likely to further reshape the political landscape in West Bengal following the recent change in power in the state.
