PM took NEET retest responsibility, his resignation will be demanded if leak happens: Digvijaya

Business To Business, New Delhi, 1st June, 2026:   Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday intensified his criticism of the government's handling of the NEET examination controversy, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has effectively taken responsibility for ensuring the smooth conduct of the upcoming NEET-UG retest.
What Singh said
Singh, who chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, referred to submissions reportedly made by the government's legal representatives in court regarding the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21.
He alleged that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had failed to adequately handle the issue and claimed that the prime minister had stepped in to oversee the process. Singh further argued that if there were any leak or irregularity in the retest, accountability would extend to the highest level of government.
Parliamentary committee remarks
At the same interaction with reporters, Singh emphasized that he could not discuss the internal deliberations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee. He noted that parliamentary rules and directions from the Rajya Sabha Chair prohibit members from publicly revealing committee discussions before a report is formally presented to Parliament, warning that doing so could amount to a breach of privilege.
Political context
The remarks come amid continued political debate over the conduct of national entrance examinations, particularly NEET. Opposition parties have repeatedly raised concerns about examination security, transparency, and accountability, while the government has maintained that it is taking steps to ensure the integrity of the testing process.
As of now, Singh's comments represent political criticism and allegations from the opposition. The government has consistently stated that it is committed to conducting examinations fairly and securely and has implemented measures to prevent irregularities in future tests.
