Business To Business, Chandigarh, 27th June, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday launched the 'Soorma' (warrior) campaign, the next phase of the state government's anti-drug initiative, aimed at transforming recovered drug victims into ambassadors of hope and recovery.
Speaking at the launch, Mann felicitated individuals who have remained drug-free for more than two years and announced that they would be provided employment opportunities by the state government. He said they would also play a leading role in spreading awareness and combating drug abuse at the grassroots level.
The chief minister said the initiative seeks to inspire people battling addiction by showcasing the success stories of those who have overcome substance abuse through determination and sustained recovery.
Explaining the significance of the campaign's name, Mann said the title 'Soorma', deeply rooted in Punjab's heritage, symbolises warrior-like courage and reflects the resilience, willpower and commitment demonstrated by individuals who have successfully reclaimed their lives from addiction.
He said the campaign forms part of the government's broader strategy to tackle the drug menace through a combination of enforcement, rehabilitation, awareness and community participation, with recovered individuals serving as role models to encourage others to seek treatment and rebuild their lives.
