Punjab Cong chief slams AAP govt for adding to state's debt burden

Business To Business, Chandigarh, 26th June, 2026:  Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday criticised the AAP government in Punjab, alleging that its decision to borrow an additional Rs 1,500 crore would further increase the state's debt burden and push it towards financial distress.
In a statement, Warring described the move as "a classic case of robbing Peter to pay Paul," claiming that the government was relying on fresh borrowing to meet its financial obligations rather than addressing underlying fiscal challenges.
He alleged that Punjab was being continuously burdened with debt and expressed concern over the state's long-term financial health.
"I am sure, the AAP will leave a bankrupt Punjab for the successor government," Warring said.
The Congress leader's remarks come amid an ongoing political debate over the fiscal management of the state, with the opposition questioning the government's borrowing strategy and its impact on Punjab's finances.
The AAP government has not immediately responded to Warring's latest allegations.
