Rebel TMC builds parallel organisation as Anubrata joins Ritabrata camp

Business To Business, Kolkata, 11th July, 2026:   The Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday intensified its bid to establish control over the party by announcing parallel state and district committees, signalling a shift from political dissent to building an alternative organisational structure.
The appointments were announced after the faction's two-day working committee meeting and reportedly brought several longtime associates of the TMC, including former Birbhum leader Anubrata Mondal, into the rebel camp.
The move indicates that the faction is seeking to build a parallel party apparatus while its claim to be the legitimate Trinamool Congress remains pending before the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The latest development follows the faction's special session held last month, during which it:

  • Removed Mamata Banerjee as party chairperson.
  • Elected senior MLA Arup Roy as the new chairperson.
  • Constituted a parallel working committee.
  • Approached the Election Commission seeking recognition as the "real" Trinamool Congress.
The Election Commission has yet to decide on the competing claims regarding the party's leadership and organisational control. Until such a determination is made, the dispute remains unresolved.
