Ritabrata-led TMC faction to meet EC full bench amid intensifying battle over party name, symbol

Business To Business, Kolkata, 01st July, 2026:   The battle for control of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) intensified on Wednesday, with the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel faction securing an appointment with the full bench of the Election Commission, while the Mamata Banerjee-led camp questioned the dissidents' claim to represent the party amid an escalating dispute over its name, funds and twin-flower symbol.
According to leaders of the rebel camp, a 10-member delegation led by Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee is scheduled to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two Election Commissioners in New Delhi on Thursday.
"We have got an appointment tomorrow with the EC. A delegation of 10 members of the TMC will meet the EC bench," Banerjee told reporters before leaving for Delhi.
The meeting is expected to take place against the backdrop of an intensifying internal dispute within the party over organisational control and the use of its official name, election symbol and financial assets.
