Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, Bengaluru, 30th May, 2026: D. K. Shivakumar on Saturday met Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan and formally staked claim to form a new government in Karnataka, according to official sources.
Shivakumar was accompanied by outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other senior leaders of the Indian National Congress.
Earlier in the day, Shivakumar, who also serves as the Karnataka Congress president, was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), clearing the way for him to become the state's next chief minister.
The development follows Siddaramaiah's resignation and the dissolution of the previous cabinet. As CLP leader, Shivakumar is expected to be invited by the governor to form the new government and subsequently take the oath of office along with members of his council of ministers.
The move marks a significant milestone in Shivakumar's political career after decades in Karnataka politics, during which he emerged as one of the Congress party's most influential leaders in the state.
