Siddaramaiah to host breakfast for cabinet colleagues on May 28, to break suspense on leadership change
Business To Business, Bengaluru, 27th May, 2026: Political speculation intensified in Karnataka on Wednesday amid reports that Siddaramaiah may step down to pave the way for his deputy DK Shivakumar under an alleged 2023 “rotational formula”.
According to reports:
- Siddaramaiah is expected to host his cabinet colleagues for breakfast on Thursday
- He may also meet Thaawarchand Gehlot and potentially submit his resignation
However, the veteran Congress leader maintained suspense over the developments and declined to comment directly on the speculation, saying he would speak on the matter later.
The speculation gained momentum after:
- Marathon discussions involving Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar with the top leadership of the Indian National Congress in New Delhi on Tuesday
- Reports suggested that a leadership transition could now be likely
The issue of a possible rotational chief minister arrangement has dominated Karnataka politics since last year and intensified after the government crossed the halfway mark of its term in November.
The Congress government in Karnataka has repeatedly denied internal conflict publicly, though political observers have closely watched the evolving equation between:
- Siddaramaiah
- DK Shivakumar
Both leaders are considered key power centres within the party in the state.
