Signature forgery case: CID conducts marathon questioning of TMC's Abhishek, Kunal Ghosh

Business To Business, Kolkata, 14th June, 2026:    The Criminal Investigation Department on Sunday conducted extensive questioning of Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh as part of its investigation into the alleged forgery of MLAs' signatures on documents connected to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
According to officials, Banerjee arrived at the CID headquarters, Bhawani Bhawan, in the morning for his second round of questioning in the case.
After emerging from the CID office following nearly four hours of interrogation, Ghosh told reporters that investigators had questioned him extensively and that he had fully cooperated with the probe.
Ghosh also claimed that during the questioning session, he and Abhishek Banerjee were seated face-to-face by investigators, suggesting that the CID sought to compare their statements directly.
The case revolves around allegations that signatures of certain MLAs were forged on documents submitted in connection with the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. The CID is examining the authenticity of those documents and the circumstances under which they were prepared and submitted.
The investigation comes at a politically sensitive time for the All India Trinamool Congress, which is already grappling with internal turmoil following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026. No formal conclusions have yet been announced by the CID, and the probe remains ongoing.
