Business To Business, Kolkata, 27th May, 2026: The incident occurred after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in connection with the alleged CMRL money laundering case. The raids were part of a wider probe involving multiple locations across Kerala.
According to reports and television visuals, tension escalated outside Vijayan’s rented residence in Thiruvananthapuram after ED officials completed the search operation. Suspected CPI(M) workers and activists gathered outside the house, shouting slogans and protesting against the central agency’s action.
As ED teams attempted to leave the premises, protesters allegedly attacked at least three vehicles, including one carrying ED officials. Visuals showed damaged vehicles amid heavy commotion, while police personnel struggled to control the crowd and prevent the violence.
The ED searches are linked to allegations that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) paid around ₹1.72 crore to Exalogic Solutions, a company owned by Vijayan’s daughter Veena T, allegedly for services that investigators claim were never provided. The agency registered a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case in 2024 after examining the financial transactions.
The raids came a day after the Kerala High Court reportedly refused to quash ED proceedings in the case.
