Suvendu inaugurates rebuilt Dudhia bridge, restoring Siliguri-Mirik connectivity

Business To Business, Kolkata,  08th July, 2026:   West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the reconstructed Dudhia Bridge over the Balason River in Darjeeling district, restoring a crucial road link between Siliguri and Mirik that had been disrupted after the previous bridge was washed away last month.
The Bailey bridge was rebuilt in just 20 days through a coordinated effort by the Indian Army's Trishakti Corps, the Public Works Department (PWD) and the district administration.
With the bridge now operational, normal connectivity between Siliguri and Mirik has been restored, providing relief to residents, commuters and businesses that had been forced to use longer alternative routes following the collapse of the earlier structure.
Addressing the inauguration programme, Adhikari expressed gratitude to all the agencies involved in completing the reconstruction within a short period.
He commended the Indian Army's Trishakti Corps, the PWD and district officials for their coordinated efforts, stating that the timely completion of the project had minimised inconvenience to the public and restored an important transport corridor in the hill region.
The reopening of the Dudhia Bridge is expected to improve the movement of people and goods, benefiting local residents, tourists and commercial activities while strengthening connectivity between Siliguri, Mirik and other parts of Darjeeling district.
