Suvhendu to make first Darjeeling hills visit on June 16, review development, political issues
Business To Business, Kolkata, 15th June, 2026: Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to undertake his first official visit to the Darjeeling Hills on Tuesday since assuming office, marking an important engagement with the politically and strategically significant hill region.
First visit as Chief Minister
Although Adhikari has already toured several districts of north Bengal, including Siliguri, this will be his maiden visit to the Darjeeling hills in his capacity as Chief Minister.
During the visit, he is expected to:
- Review the prevailing situation in the hills.
- Hold administrative and development review meetings.
- Interact with local stakeholders and officials.
- Participate in a government outreach programme.
According to officials, Adhikari is expected to reach
Goethals Memorial School in
Kurseong at around 11 a.m.
At the venue, he will distribute benefits under various government welfare schemes directly to beneficiaries as part of the state's outreach efforts.
The Darjeeling hills have long held political significance because of their distinct cultural identity and periodic demands related to regional autonomy and development. As a result, visits by chief ministers to the region are closely watched for signals regarding governance, infrastructure development, tourism, employment, and relations with local hill communities.
Officials indicated that discussions during the visit may include:
