Those who tried to storm police station, free TMC's Jahangir Khan won't be spared: Bengal CM

Business To Business, Kolkata, 17th June, 2026:   Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday warned of strict legal action against those allegedly involved in an attempt to storm a police station in South 24 Parganas and secure the release of jailed Jahangir Khan.
Speaking at the state government's Janakalyan Shivir outreach programme in Falta, Adhikari said that individuals seen in videos purportedly attacking police personnel and paramilitary forces would not be spared.

  • He directed the police to take stringent action against all those involved in the incident.
  • Adhikari asked law enforcement agencies to invoke serious charges, including provisions relating to acts that endanger the sovereignty and unity of India, wherever applicable under the law.
  • He emphasized that the accused must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay.
  • The Chief Minister said attacks on police and security forces would not be tolerated and that the rule of law must prevail.
The controversy stems from an alleged attempt by supporters of Jahangir Khan to gather outside and reportedly try to storm a local police station following his arrest. According to the government's account, security personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, came under attack during the unrest.
Authorities are examining video footage and other evidence to identify those involved in the violence. The administration has indicated that cases will be registered against all individuals found to have participated in attacks on security personnel or public property.
The incident has drawn political attention in West Bengal, with the government portraying it as a serious challenge to law and order and opposition parties likely to scrutinize both the circumstances surrounding Khan's arrest and the subsequent police response.
Investigations into the incident are continuing, and further details regarding arrests and charges are expected as the probe progresses.
