Business To Business, New Delhi, 4th May 2026: As the Bharatiya Janata Party registered a historic victory in West Bengal for the first time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the state had been “freed from fear” and emphasised that it was a time for change, not revenge. He appealed to all political parties to abandon the culture of violence and work towards the state’s future.
Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters following the party’s victories in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, Modi said opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress and the All India Trinamool Congress, had been “punished” for opposing the women’s reservation bill.
He also took aim at the Samajwadi Party, asserting that it would face the “wrath of women” in the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
In his nearly 50-minute speech, the Prime Minister described the West Bengal elections as “special,” noting that previous polls in the state had often been marred by violence, fear, and the loss of innocent lives.
