TMC feud reaches EC doorstep, poll body yet to decide on calling two factions

Business To Business, Kolkata, 01st July, 2026:   The internal power struggle within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has reached the Election Commission, with both rival factions staking claim to the party's name and organisational leadership.
Days after the Mamata Banerjee-led faction submitted a fresh list of its office-bearers and members of the national working committee to the Election Commission, the rebel MLAs are scheduled to meet the poll panel's top leadership in New Delhi on Thursday to seek recognition as the "real" Trinamool Congress.
In a bid to counter the rebels' move, the TMC has informed the Election Commission that Mamata Banerjee continues to head the party and that it retains a functional organisational structure.
The developments mark a significant escalation in the internal dispute, with both factions seeking the Election Commission's recognition over the party's name, organisational control and election symbol.
