TMC legislative party leader Shovondeb Chattopadhyay and MLA Kunal Ghosh,

Business To Business, Kolkata, 27th May, 2026:   Members of the All India Trinamool Congress staged a sit-in protest inside the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, marking a sharp turn in the state’s political dynamics.
The protest was led by senior TMC leaders including MLA Shovondeb Chattopadhyay and Kunal Ghosh. They accused the current Assembly leadership of denying the principal opposition party proper recognition and institutional facilities, including the designation of the Leader of Opposition and allocation of office space.
According to the protesting legislators, they were not granted an audience with Speaker Rathindranath Bose, prompting them to stage the sit-in within the Assembly premises itself.
The development has drawn attention for its political symbolism, as it reflects a reversal in roles within West Bengal—where the Trinamool Congress, long the dominant ruling party, now finds itself asserting opposition rights and procedural space in the legislature.
