TMC's Aroop Biswas skips police summons in Messi event irregularities probe

Business To Business, Kolkata, 15th June, 2026:   Former minister Aroop Biswas on Monday failed to appear before police for questioning in connection with an investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding an event featuring Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, according to a police officer.
Police had issued a third notice to the senior All India Trinamool Congress leader on Saturday, directing him to appear before Bidhannagar Dakshin Police Station within 48 hours.
The deadline for compliance expired at noon on Monday, but Biswas did not appear before investigators, the officer said.
This marks the third consecutive occasion on which the former minister has not responded to police summons in the case.
The probe relates to alleged irregularities connected with an event involving Lionel Messi. Investigators are seeking to question Biswas as part of their inquiry into the organisation and conduct of the event.
At this stage:

  • No details of the alleged irregularities have been publicly established in court.
  • Police are continuing their investigation.
  • Biswas has not appeared despite three notices.
Under Indian law, investigating agencies may consider further legal options if a person repeatedly fails to comply with summons, though any such action would depend on the facts of the case and applicable legal procedures.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced any further measures regarding Biswas's repeated non-appearance.
