TMC's civic citadels show cracks as resignations mount after poll rout

Business To Business, Kolkata, 28th May, 2026:   The political fallout of the Trinamool Congress’ electoral defeat has begun reflecting in the party’s civic strongholds, particularly within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Kolkata Municipal Corporation), where internal dissent has surfaced through a series of resignations.
On Wednesday, councillors Sushanta Ghosh and Arup Chakraborty stepped down from key civic posts while retaining their elected councillor positions.
Ghosh resigned as chairman of Borough XII, while Chakraborty stepped down from the accounts committee of the civic body. Both reportedly used the occasion to voice criticism of the party’s leadership and its handling of post-defeat organisational challenges.
The developments point to growing internal strain within the All India Trinamool Congress’s grassroots and civic-level structures, which have historically formed a key part of its organisational strength in West Bengal.
