TMC's post-poll unease deepens as veteran MP Sukhendu flags 'anarchy'

Business To Business, Kolkata, 26th May, 2026:  Signs of internal friction within the Trinamool Congress surfaced on Tuesday following its reported electoral setback in the recent West Bengal Assembly Elections.
Senior Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy drew attention after posting a cryptic message on X referencing historical events, which sparked political discussion about growing unease within the party.
In his post, Roy referred to the assassination of Roman leader Julius Caesar, stating:
“In 44 BC, Roman Emperor Julius Ceaser was stabbed to death in the Senate on the Ides of March…”
He further added a political analogy suggesting that “before Ides of May, people of West Bengal put an end to unbearable anarchical situation,” a remark widely interpreted as a critique of the party’s recent performance and internal state of affairs.
This development comes shortly after another senior leader, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s direction.
Together, these statements have fuelled speculation about:

  • Internal dissent within the Trinamool Congress
  • Post-election leadership tensions
  • Strategic and organisational recalibration after the electoral outcome
The situation highlights increasing political churn within the party as it assesses its performance and future course in West Bengal.
