TMC unrest deepens as Sudip Bandyopadhyay meets top BJP leaders in Delhi

Business To Business, New Delhi, 13th June, 2026:    A meeting between senior Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi on Saturday has triggered fresh political speculation amid the ongoing crisis within the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The development comes at a time when a dissident faction of TMC MPs is seeking recognition as a separate parliamentary group and has announced plans to approach Om Birla.
According to sources, speculation intensified after Bandyopadhyay allegedly also met Amit Shah in the national capital following his interaction with Yadav.
No official confirmation regarding the purpose or details of these meetings was immediately available.
The meetings sparked strong reactions among TMC leaders in Kolkata who continue to support party chief Mamata Banerjee.
The developments also drew comments from leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly those who had previously been associated with the TMC before switching sides.
The speculation follows a turbulent week for the TMC, marked by:

  • Resignations of multiple MPs from the party.
  • Internal disagreements over leadership and organizational control.
  • Claims by dissident lawmakers that they command significant support among TMC parliamentarians.
  • Plans by rebels to seek official recognition as the "real TMC" in Parliament.
As of now, there has been no formal announcement from Bandyopadhyay regarding any change in political affiliation or support for the dissident faction.
Consequently, suggestions that he may join the rebel camp remain speculative and based on political interpretations of his meetings in New Delhi.
The episode nevertheless highlights the continuing uncertainty within the TMC as the party grapples with one of the most significant internal challenges in its recent history.
