TMCP Foundation Day battle shifts rivalry to August 28 as rival TMC factions eye Kolkata venues

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th July, 2026:   The battle over the Trinamool Congress (TMC) political legacy is set to extend to another symbolic organisational event, with the rival faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee seeking police permission to hold a programme on August 28 to mark the foundation day of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP).
The move is expected to trigger another confrontation with the faction led by former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The development comes just a week after the rival camps clashed over venues for the July 21 Martyrs' Day observance, a contest widely viewed as the first public test of organisational strength following the split in the TMC after its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
According to sources in the rebel camp headed by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, an application has already been submitted to Kolkata Police seeking permission to organise the TMCP foundation day programme on August 28.
The proposed event is likely to become another flashpoint in the ongoing struggle between the two factions over the party's organisational legacy and political influence in West Bengal.
