TN Assembly passes resolution against Centre's proposed amendments to Waqf Bill

Business To Business, Chennai, 27 Mar. 25: The Tamil Nadu Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday opposing the Centre's proposed Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, calling for its recall due to concerns that it would adversely impact the minority Muslim community. Chief Minister M K Stalin argued that various provisions in the amendment bill amount to unwarranted interference in religious affairs.
The resolution was adopted amidst protests and a walkout by BJP members, but garnered support from all other parties, including the principal opposition AIADMK and the PMK, which is an ally of the BJP. In response, BJP leaders accused the ruling DMK of engaging in "usual divisive politics" through the resolution.
